For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored 1920s Waterman #56 Cardinal Red Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized, silicone sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Clip-Cap Clip, Gold Filled Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #6 Manifold NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Cardinal Red color. The coloring is gorgeous displaying a consistent red coloring. The lever is crisp and clean with "IDEAL" on the lever displaying crisply. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap displays no wearing of the Gold Filled material. The gold-filled cap banding is also in excellent condition with no wear of the material. The barrel has the imprint at the center of the barrel that is clean, crisp, and reads, "WATERMAN'S REG US IDEAL GLOBE PAT OFF FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp number "56" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #56 measures 5 1/2" in length capped and 7" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.

This Waterman has a Manifold #6 IDEAL Nib Made in the USA. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .74mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring roughly .79mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This antique Waterman #56 Card Red Hard Rubber Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in excellent condition and certainly a very difficult Waterman Model and color to acquire. This is a collector grade with amazing coloring and clean and crisp imprints. This Waterman #56 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition or add it to your writing arsenal collection.
